Overcoming Food Cravings with a Paleo Diet
Is it possible to NOT have food cravings?
One of the things that is promised by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig in their book, It Starts With Food, is to improve your relationship with food. What does that mean to you?
You hear the word willpower in the discussion of food and diets. I guess that means having the willpower to avoid eating that doughnut, right? Well, I'm here to tell you that if you eat clean, meaning no processed foods, those internal struggles of willpower will go away eventually. And the Hartwigs explain why in their book.
I had been a sugar addict my whole life. My lunch in school used to be six mini chocolate doughnuts and a Diet Dr Pepper. When I was in college in the late 70s, being extremely thin was the ideal beauty. I would try to eat as little as I could, but I was constantly in a power struggle with myself.
Why live your life like that when you don't have to?
I've been following Paleo diet principles for a while now. I have no desire to eat those chocolate mini doughnuts. I can actually taste the chemicals in them.
I have had a box of truffles sitting on the top of my fridge since Christmas. I see those truffles several times a day, and I don't have a desire to pop one in my mouth. That's new to me. It doesn't mean I never eat sweets. It's just that I'm in control now.
